...Okay that is perfect, and it happened.
I've played many events for the organizers of the NYE Timeless Ball, but had no idea what an incredible production they had put together. Every room in the Crescent Club had its own vibe with entertainment and with 500+ people in attendance, it didn't take long to get the party started!
As the first guests started to arrive, the band got the room nice and warm with some high energy instrumental jazz and r&b tunes.
This is always a great way to start a party. Hip jazz sets the mood for a cool & classy party, all the while giving them something to warm up to while they meet and greet.
By the time our cocktail sets were over, it was clear that the crowd was ready to get movin'!
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen, we are The1942. Thank you so much for being here, hope you are having the night of your life. Grab a drink, make a friend, and let's have a good time."
...
We begun our dance set with a signature move: ballad intro into heavy hip- hop. Anthony cues the intro with a chord as I begin, "I get no kick from champagne..Mere alcohol doesn't thrill me at all....so tell me why should it be true?....That I get a kick ouuuuttt ooofffff youuuuuuuu....2-3-4-BOOM!
...
The most important part of performing live is that we play the room. That means playing tunes that the crowd wants to hear, and knowing how to bring the audience with us wherever the music goes. This can be challenging in a situation where we are not playing a concert, rather, adding ambience to a room or playing in the background. Luckily, The1942 can do both at the same time.
As we progressed through the night, our most important objective was to get people dancing! We succeeded with songs like Michael Buble's "Sway", Justin Timberlake's "Suit & Tie", Bruno Mars's "Uptown Funk", and of course our signature jazz remixes of infamous Sinatra era tunes.
All in all, what makes events like this so special is that they only happen once. We were fortunate enough to land this gig just a few weeks before NYE. Big thanks to Vodi Cook who put the whole thing together and gave us this special opportunity to be a part of The 2017 NYE Timeless Gala. Also, thanks to Nate Rehlander (www.naterehlander.com) & Nicollette Mollet (www.nicollettemollet.com) for all the great photos. Thank you and God bless!
